Heather Donis

Color and energy are the signatures of my artwork. Most often bright and happy, whimsical and fun, it is also filled with symbolism and meaning. I like to call my paintings “Whispers from the Universe”. As I meditate and look for guidance an image will pop up - most often in the form of an animal but not always. I intuitively know this means something and will look up the spiritual/symbolic meaning. From there it clicks and the composition appears in my head. I like to think of my paintings as combining my inner world with the outer world.

I find great joy as people connect with my artwork in their own personal ways and share their stories with me why a piece means what it means to them. If I can uplift someone with my artwork I feel my purpose has been served.

Heather Donis was born and raised in Virginia Beach in the year 1972. When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up the answer was always the same, an artist. She went to University of Maryland and studied Fine Arts and completed her Bachelor’s degree at Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Art Education.

Deciding not to teach, Heather attended Tidewater’s Visual Art Center and earned an AAS in Graphic Design and worked as a designer until the birth of her son in 2009. She left her job in 2010 and has been pursuing a fine arts career ever since, along the way creating her own business doing Mobile Paint Parties called Heather Donis Designs Mobile Paint Parties.
